ABOUT THE ARTIST Texas born artist Jonathon Kimbrell hails from Houston, however, he was raised in West Texas surrounded by dirt, cowboys and blues music. Upon graduating from McMurry University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art, he relocated to North Texas and established Napkin Art Studios, his home base for fine art and design. Since childhood, Kimbrell has been greatly influenced by numerous 20th Century artists, such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha & Tom Wesselman, music, film, comic books, advertising, mid-century advertising and design, war propaganda posters, automobiles, vinyl records and vintage package design. In various form and fashion all of these elements find their way into Kimbrell's extensive body of work. In the short amount of time Kimbrell has been working as a professional artist his work has spanned the globe and can be seen in numerous galleries around the US, as well as the UK. His work is currently represented by The Cameron Gallery in Dallas, Pop Chicago Gallery in Chicago and Urban Angel Gallery in London, to name but a few. Kimbrell’s work has also been acquired by corporate and private collectors in the US, Europe and Asia. In 2004, he was a finalist for Nikon’s “Best of College Photography”, and In 2009, Kimbrell’s art could be seen in the Spring issue of Atomic Ranch Magazine, a magazine dedicated to Mid-century Home and Design. In addition to working as a gallery artist, Kimbrell is also a freelance graphic designer, ad designer for Arts+Culture Magazine DFW, Art Director for Arts+Culture Houston, silk screen printer, photographer, and music blogger. His first book collecting the art of his "We Are Modern" series saw release in May 2011. Kimbrell currently lives and works in Dallas, Texas. |
